Walter McCollum Education Foundation supports education and technology initiatives in Haiti.

Awards scholarships to Haitian young men between the ages of 16 and 25 who are majoring in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) and/or International Relations Programs.

Dr. Walter McCollum

Executive Director’s Bio
Dr. Walter McCollum, a Fulbright Scholar, is the vice president, Miami Dade College online. He has worked for top global corporations over the past 14 years, where he has served as a senior leader in organizational development, change management, and quality management. Prior to his corporate experience, Walter served 13 years in the United States Air Force (a decorated Desert Storm Veteran) both abroad and stateside in the specialties of information management and communications.
Walter is passionate about impacting positive social change internationally. Over the past several years, he has spent time in South Africa, Costa Rica, and Haiti working on international initiatives. In South Africa, Dr. McCollum spent time in local township schools and AIDS orphanages, exploring opportunities to better support children who had AIDS continue their educational opportunities. In Costa Rica, he led a delegation to rebuild houses on an indigenous reservation near Cahuita so locals could cook on an open fire, which is part of their culture.

Walter has spent the past 10 years in Carrefour, Haiti, where he started a mentoring program for young men between the ages of 16 and 25, focusing on Servant Leadership and Emotional Intelligence. He is currently working with Haitian education officials to explore opportunities to bring technology into the Haitian educational system.

Walter is the recipient of the Walden Extraordinary Faculty Award, 2011 and the Walden Outstanding Alumni Award, 2014. He has written and published seven books and is published in several peer-reviewed journals. Walter is the co-chair of the International Conference on Interdisciplinary Research Studies at George Washington University. He is a graduate of the AGB (Apple Golf Bravo) Institute cohort 2020.

Walter holds an Associate of Applied Sciences degree in Business Management from Dabney S. Lancaster Community College, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from the University of the State of New York, a Master of Arts Degree in Management from Webster University, and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Applied Management and Decision Sciences with a specialization in Leadership and Organizational Change from Walden University.

Mission Statement

To support education and technology initiatives aligned with science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) in Port au Prince, Haiti, through collaboration with the Haitian Ministry of Education, Quisqueya University, selected orphanages, and other non-profit organizations. To provide scholarships and internships to young men in Haiti between the ages of 16-25 who are in STEM and/or International Relations programs. Also, to support international relations, international interdisciplinary research, business development, education, and technology initiatives in Ghana.

Orphanage Support

The focus of the Orphanage Support program is to provide education and technology support to children in selected orphanages. Thirty-two thousand children are languishing unnecessarily in 760 orphanages in Haiti. At least 80% of these children have one or two living parents who want them but have no access to health, education, or social services in the community.
